A Black personal injury lawyer who fights for San Antonio families
Korey Huff represents people across San Antonio and Bexar County who were hurt in car and truck wrecks, motorcycle crashes, falls, and other accidents that were not their fault. The Huff Law Firm is Black-owned and built on one promise: the insurance company will not get to decide what your injury is worth. We will.
If you were hurt on Loop 410, in a store on the West Side, or anywhere else in Bexar County, the next step is one phone call. We handle the adjusters, the medical bills and the paperwork while you heal.
- Free review. No attorney fee unless we recover. If we accept your personal injury case and recover no money, you owe our firm no attorney fees or repayment of case expenses we advanced. With a recovery, fees and expenses follow your written agreement.
- Lawyers handle your case. Start with a free case review, ask your questions and discuss the next step with a lawyer.
- Attorney background. Korey Huff was named to the National Trial Lawyers 2020 Top 100 list.
- We come to you. Hospital, home or video. You never have to drive to an office to hire us.
Personal injury cases we handle in San Antonio
Every case below starts the same way: someone was careless, and you paid for it. Here is what we handle and where each kind of case usually comes from in San Antonio.
Car accidents
Rear-end collisions, intersection crashes and head-on wrecks can cause serious injuries on Loop 410, Loop 1604, Culebra Road and Bandera Road. For the steps after a collision, insurance questions and crash-specific guidance, visit our San Antonio car accident lawyer page.
18-wheeler and commercial truck crashes
I-35 and I-10 carry freight from Laredo and the Eagle Ford through the middle of the city. A truck case is not a big car case; there are federal driver-hour rules, black-box data and a trucking company's lawyers on the phone within hours. We move fast to preserve the evidence before it disappears.
Motorcycle accidents
San Antonio riders get blamed for crashes they did not cause. We use the physical evidence and witnesses to show who really failed to yield.
Rideshare, Uber and Lyft accidents
Whether you were a passenger, the other driver or a pedestrian, which insurance policy pays depends on what the driver's app was doing at the moment of the crash. We sort that out. Texas rideshare insurance requirements.
Pedestrian and bicycle accidents
San Antonio is one of the deadliest large cities in Texas for pedestrians. Crashes on Fredericksburg Road, Zarzamora, Military Drive and downtown are common, and drivers almost always claim the pedestrian "came out of nowhere."
Slip, trip and fall
Wet floors, broken stairs and poorly lit parking lots can cause serious injuries. The duty owed under Texas premises-liability law depends on why you were on the property and what the owner or occupier knew about the hazard. We investigate whether an unreasonably dangerous condition should have been corrected or adequately warned about.
Wrongful death
When a crash or an accident takes a family member, Texas lets the spouse, children and parents bring a claim for their loss and the estate bring one for the pain the person suffered. We handle these cases with the care they deserve.
Why injured San Antonians choose The Huff Law Firm
A Black-owned firm that listens. Representation means something when you have been hurt and someone is already trying to blame you. Korey Huff built this firm so that clients have a lawyer they trust in the room.
You talk to the lawyer. Lawyers handle your case, explain the evidence and answer questions about the legal process.
We build the case with trial in mind. We prepare from day one as if a Bexar County jury will see it, and evaluate negotiation, mediation and litigation according to what your claim needs.
No upfront attorney fee. If we accept your case, we advance case expenses. If there is no recovery, you owe our firm no attorney fees or repayment of those advanced expenses; with a recovery, your written agreement controls.

How a personal injury claim works in Texas
In a negligence claim, a lawyer evaluates the duty of care, whether it was breached, whether that breach caused the injury and what damages can be proved. The responsible parties, available insurance and applicable legal rules determine how a particular claim can proceed.
The 51% rule
Texas uses "modified comparative fault." You can recover as long as you were not more than 50% responsible, and your recovery is reduced by your share. If a jury finds you 20% at fault on a $100,000 case, you receive $80,000. Insurance adjusters know this, which is why their first move is to put a percentage on you. Our first move is to take it off.
Texas insurance minimums are low
Texas drivers generally must carry at least $30,000 per injured person, $60,000 per accident for bodily injury and $25,000 per accident for property damage. Serious injuries can exceed those limits. We review the policies that may apply, including an at-fault driver’s, a relevant employer’s and your own uninsured/underinsured motorist or PIP coverage.
Who actually pays
Payment may come from applicable liability coverage, your own coverage or another responsible party. Coverage limits, exclusions and disputed fault affect what is available. Before giving a recorded statement or signing an insurance release, understand whose insurer is asking and how it may affect your claim. Texas Department of Insurance guidance.
What your San Antonio injury case may be worth
Every case is different. The injury, available evidence, applicable law and insurance affect its potential value. Here are losses a lawyer may evaluate.
| Type of damages | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Medical expenses | ER, surgery, imaging, physical therapy, medication, and the care you will need in the future |
| Lost wages | Paychecks you missed, and reduced earning capacity if you cannot return to the same work |
| Pain and suffering | Physical pain, past and future |
| Mental anguish | Anxiety, sleeplessness, fear of driving, PTSD |
| Physical impairment | Loss of the ability to do what you did before: work, lift your kids, play ball |
| Disfigurement | Scarring and permanent visible injury |
| Property damage | Your vehicle, phone, and anything else destroyed |
| Wrongful death | Loss of companionship, support and inheritance for the family |
| Exemplary (punitive) damages | Potential additional damages when clear and convincing evidence shows that the harm resulted from fraud, malice or gross negligence; statutory limits and exceptions apply. |
Sources: Texas damages definitions and exemplary-damage requirements; wrongful-death and survival law. Eligibility, proof and limits depend on the claim.
Our goal is to identify and document every recoverable loss supported by your case. A claim’s value depends on liability, the extent of the harm, the evidence and the coverage or other recovery sources available.
How long you have to file in Texas
Texas generally provides a two-year limitations period for personal-injury claims under Civil Practice and Remedies Code section 16.003, with accrual rules and exceptions. Wrongful-death claims generally accrue on the date of death. A lawyer should identify the applicable deadline for your specific claim.
Some claims require earlier notice or different procedures:
- Government claims may require written notice before the lawsuit deadline. Texas law generally requires notice within six months for claims within the Tort Claims Act, while San Antonio’s charter states a 90-day City notice requirement. A VIA, Bexar County or other public-entity claim requires identifying the correct entity and applicable notice rules.
- Federal property or vehicles (Lackland, Fort Sam Houston, Randolph, a USPS truck): if an injury involves a federal employee acting within the scope of employment, the Federal Tort Claims Act may apply. A written administrative claim generally must reach the correct federal agency within two years after the claim accrues. After the agency mails a final denial, a lawsuit generally must be filed within six months. If the agency has not finally decided the claim after six months, different filing options apply. Federal-property and military-related cases require an individual review of the applicable rules and exceptions.
- For many Texas personal-injury claims, a child’s minority pauses the limitations period until age eighteen. That protection does not automatically extend a parent’s separate claim for the child’s medical expenses, which may still be subject to the ordinary two-year deadline. Different claims and notice rules can have different deadlines, so have a lawyer check both the child’s and parents’ claims promptly.
A missed deadline can bar a claim. Call early, even if you are unsure whether you want to sue, so a lawyer can check deadlines and preservation needs.
What to do after an injury in San Antonio
- Get medical attention promptly. For severe or life-threatening injuries, call 911. University Hospital, Brooke Army Medical Center, Methodist Hospital, North Central Baptist Hospital and CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital–Westover Hills all have trauma centers. Follow emergency responders’ or clinicians’ guidance about where to receive care, and tell the clinician about all your symptoms.
- Get the report. If SAPD or the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office investigates a reportable crash, the investigating officer prepares a Texas Peace Officer’s Crash Report (CR-3). Ask for the report number. For a fall or other property injury, ask whether an incident report was prepared and request a copy.
- Photograph everything. The scene, the hazard, the vehicles, your injuries today and again each week as they change. Photos of a wet floor disappear the moment someone mops.
- Get names and contact information for witnesses, the manager on duty and other involved people. Preserve this information while it is available.
- Do not post about it. Insurance companies read social media. A photo of you smiling at a cookout becomes "she wasn't in pain."
- Do not give a recorded statement or sign anything from the other side's insurer. You are not required to, and nothing good comes from it.
- Call a lawyer before the adjuster calls you back. 1-877-HIT-MEUP is answered 24 hours a day.
What happens after you call us
Free case review. Tell us what happened, ask questions and discuss whether the firm can help. If the firm accepts the case, the written agreement explains representation, fees and case expenses.
Evidence and treatment records. We request relevant reports, available video, photographs, witness information and medical records. Let us know about treatment and payment concerns so available options can be reviewed.
You focus on recovery while we build the file. Medical records and bills, wage information, evidence of daily limitations and expert analysis when needed help document the claim.
Demand. When your treatment is done or your long-term picture is clear, we send the insurer a demand package laying out exactly what they owe and why. Most cases settle in the weeks that follow.
Lawsuit if needed. If the claim cannot be resolved appropriately, a lawyer evaluates filing in the proper court. Mediation, other negotiations and trial may follow. The route and timing depend on the claim.
Recovery and accounting. If money is recovered, we review applicable medical liens, reimbursement claims, fees and case expenses and provide a settlement accounting. The final amount you receive depends on those obligations and your agreement.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a personal injury lawyer cost in San Antonio?
Your review is free. If the firm accepts your personal injury case, we work on a contingency fee and advance case expenses. With no recovery, you owe our firm no attorney fees or repayment of expenses we advanced; with a recovery, the written agreement controls.
How do I know if I have a personal injury case?
If someone else's carelessness caused an injury that required medical care, you likely have a case. The only way to know for sure is a free review, which takes about fifteen minutes by phone.
Should I take the insurance company's first offer?
Almost never. First offers are made before the insurer knows the full extent of your injuries and are designed to close the file cheaply. Once you accept, you cannot reopen the claim even if you need surgery later.
What if I was partly at fault?
You can still recover in Texas as long as you were not more than 50% responsible. Your recovery is reduced by your percentage of fault.
How long does a personal injury case take?
Timing depends on treatment, the medical outlook, disputed fault, available coverage and negotiations. A lawsuit can add stages. A meaningful estimate requires reviewing your actual case rather than promising a fixed number of months or a larger settlement.
Will I have to go to court?
Whether court proceedings are needed depends on the claim and the response to negotiation. We evaluate settlement, mediation and litigation and explain the choices as your case develops.
Who pays my medical bills while the case is pending?
Depending on the injury and coverage, health insurance, PIP, MedPay or a provider payment arrangement may help while a claim is pending. The other side’s insurer may not pay providers as bills arrive. Coverage limits, outstanding balances and reimbursement rights need individual review. Texas Department of Insurance guidance.
Can I still file a claim if I did not go to the doctor right away?
Yes, but it is harder. Go now. A gap in treatment is the insurer's favorite argument, and the sooner you close it the better.
