A Black personal injury lawyer who fights for Killeen families and soldiers
Speak with a Killeen personal injury lawyer about your options. Killeen lawyer Korey Huff represents people across Killeen and Bell County who were hurt in car and truck wrecks, motorcycle crashes, falls and other accidents that were not their fault. The Huff Law Firm is Black-owned, and we built it around one promise: the insurance company does not get to decide what your injury is worth.
Killeen is a military town, and we handle cases the way a military town needs them handled. Soldiers deploy mid-case. Families PCS to another state. TRICARE wants its money back. Crashes happen inside the gates. We have done all of it, and you will not have to explain any of it twice.
No attorney fee unless we win. The consultation is free and the fee comes out of the recovery.
A lawyer, not a call center. When you call, you talk to someone who can start your case tonight. If you need a Killeen injury lawyer, legal guidance is just a phone call away.

Personal injury cases we handle in Killeen
Car accidents
Rear-end wrecks on US-190/I-14 at rush hour, T-bones at Rancier and Fort Hood Street, drunk-driving crashes on Stan Schlueter and Trimmier on weekend nights. Car wrecks are most of what we do, and we built a full page on them: Killeen car accident lawyer.
18-wheeler and commercial truck crashes
I-14 and I-35 through Temple and Belton carry freight between Austin, Waco and West Texas. A truck case has federal driver-hour rules, black-box data and a trucking company's lawyers on the phone within hours. Consulting a Killeen personal injury lawyer can make a difference as we move fast to lock down the evidence.
Motorcycle accidents
Killeen has more riders per capita than almost any city in Texas, and they get blamed for crashes they did not cause. We use the physical evidence and witnesses to show who actually failed to yield the right of way.
Rideshare, Uber and Lyft accidents
Which insurance pays depends on what the driver's app was doing at the moment of the crash. We sort that out whether you were the passenger, the other driver or on foot. For rideshare accidents in Killeen, an experienced personal injury lawyer can help clarify your coverage.
Pedestrian and bicycle accidents
Soldiers and families walking along Rancier, W.S. Young and Fort Hood Street without sidewalks or lighting are hit far too often. Drivers almost always say the pedestrian "came out of nowhere."
Slip, trip and fall
Wet floors at the Killeen Mall or H-E-B, broken stairs at an apartment complex near post, unlit parking lots. Property owners in Texas owe you a safe place to walk.
Injuries on Fort Hood
A crash on post, an injury at the PX or the commissary, a fall in on-post housing. These cases involve different rules, different deadlines and sometimes the federal government as the defendant. We know the process, including the Federal Tort Claims Act.
Wrongful death
When an accident takes a family member, Texas lets the spouse, children and parents bring a claim for their loss. We handle these cases with the care they deserve, including when the family is stationed far away.
Why injured Killeen families choose The Huff Law Firm
A Black-owned firm in a city that is one-third Black. Killeen is one of the most diverse cities in Texas. Representation means something when you are hurt and someone is already trying to blame you. Korey Huff built this firm so clients have a lawyer they trust in the room.
We understand military life. Deployment orders in the middle of a case. A PCS to Fort Bragg before the settlement. A TRICARE lien that nobody at the big billboard firm knows how to reduce. We have handled every one of these, and none of them should end your case or shrink your recovery.
You talk to the lawyer. Not just an intake screener, not just a case manager. Lawyers handle your case.
We prepare cases for trial. Insurance companies know which firms settle cheap. We prepare from day one as if a Bell County jury will see it, and that is why we get real offers.
No upfront cost, ever. We advance the costs of experts, records and filings. You pay no attorney fees unless we win.

How a personal injury claim works in Texas
Texas is an at-fault state. The person or company whose carelessness hurt you, and their insurance company, may owe you for the harm. We prove four things: they had a duty to be careful, they were not, that failure caused your injury, and the injury cost you something.
The 51% rule
You can recover as long as you were not more than 50% responsible, and your recovery is reduced by your share. A 20% fault finding on a $100,000 case means $80,000. Adjusters know this, which is why their first move is to put a percentage on you. Our first move is to take it off.

Texas insurance minimums are low
Texas drivers only have to carry $30,000 per person / $60,000 per crash for injuries. One ER visit at Baylor Scott & White can pass that. We look for every policy that applies: the at-fault driver's, an employer's if they were working, and your own uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, including USAA and other military-family policies that often carry higher UM limits than people realize. When insurance falls short, a Killeen personal injury lawyer may identify additional coverage.

Who actually pays
Almost never the person who hurt you. Their insurer pays, and the adjuster who calls to "check on you" is building a file to use against you. Do not give a recorded statement before you talk to a lawyer.
What your Killeen injury case may be worth
No honest lawyer gives you a number on the first call. Here is what goes into the number.
| Type of damages | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Medical expenses | ER, surgery, imaging, physical therapy, medication, and future care, whether billed to you, TRICARE or private insurance |
| Lost wages | Paychecks you missed, and reduced earning capacity if you cannot return to the same work or the same MOS |
| Pain and suffering | Physical pain, past and future |
| Mental anguish | Anxiety, sleeplessness, fear of driving, PTSD |
| Physical impairment | Loss of the ability to do what you did before: work, train, lift your kids |
| Disfigurement | Scarring and permanent visible injury |
| Property damage | Your vehicle and anything else destroyed |
| Wrongful death | Loss of companionship, support and inheritance for the family |
| Exemplary (punitive) damages | Extra damages for gross negligence: a drunk driver, a trucking company that falsified logs |
The insurer's opening offer typically covers the first line only. Our job is uncovering the rest of the table.
How long you have to file in Texas
Typically two years. Texas Civil Practice & Remedies Code § 16.003 gives you two years from the date of injury. Wrongful death claims run two years from the date of death.

Shorter and different deadlines may apply in Killeen more than almost anywhere else in Texas:
City of Killeen, Bell County, KISD, HOP bus or any Texas government vehicle or property: written notice may be due within six months, and some city charters may require it sooner.
Sources: www.killeentexas.gov
Fort Hood, a government vehicle, or a federal employee acting within the scope of employment: your claim may fall under the Federal Tort Claims Act. An FTCA claim generally must first be presented in writing with a specific dollar amount to the appropriate federal agency within two years after it accrues. Standard Form 95 can be used. A lawsuit generally follows a written final denial or six months without final agency action; a mailed denial generally starts a separate six-month filing period. Missing a step could impact the case.

Injured while on active duty, by the military itself: the Feres doctrine may bar the claim. Injuries caused by a civilian driver, a contractor or a private business may not be affected.
Minors: the clock generally waits until the child turns 18, but the parents' claim for medical bills runs on the normal two years.

Miss a deadline and the case may be impacted no matter how strong it was. Call early, even if you are not sure you want to sue.
What to do after an injury in Killeen
-
Get medical care the same day. AdventHealth Central Texas in Killeen, Baylor Scott & White in Temple (the region's Level I trauma center), Seton Medical Center Harker Heights, or Carl R. Darnall on post if you are eligible. If you waited three days, the insurer may argue you were not really hurt. Tell the doctor everything that hurts, not just the worst thing.

-
Get the report. For a crash, Killeen PD, Harker Heights PD, DPS or Bell County Sheriff may file a CR-3 crash report; on post it is the Fort Hood DES. We can pull it for you. For an injury on someone's property, ask the manager for an incident report and photograph it before you leave.

-
Photograph everything. The scene, the hazard, the vehicles, your injuries today and again each week as they change.
-
Get names. Witnesses, the manager on duty, the other driver's insurance card. If a witness is a soldier, get a personal cell number, not just a unit; units move.
-
Do not post about it. Insurance companies read social media.
-
Do not give a recorded statement or sign anything from the other side's insurer without speaking to an attorney first. You are not required to.
-
Tell your chain of command only what you must. Report the injury as required, but you may not have to discuss the claim or the other driver's fault with anyone but your lawyer.
-
Call a lawyer before the adjuster calls you back. 1-877-HIT-MEUP is answered 24 hours a day.
What happens after you call us
Day 1: Free case review. We listen, tell you honestly whether we think you have a case, and if you do, we may sign you up by phone or video. We work to notify every insurer right away to stop contacting you.
Weeks 1–4: Evidence and treatment. We pull the police report, inquire about video from businesses and traffic cameras before it is overwritten, collect photographs, and work to get you to doctors in Killeen or Temple who will treat you now and wait to be paid from the settlement.
Months 1–6: You heal, we build. As treatment progresses, we work to gather available records and bills, document your lost wages or lost special pay, and consider bringing in experts if the case needs them.
If you deploy or PCS. Your case keeps moving. We handle everything by phone, email and video, schedule depositions around your orders, and have had clients settle from overseas. A move should not end the case or lower what it is worth.
Demand. When treatment is done or your long-term picture is clear, we work to send the insurer a demand laying out exactly what we believe they owe. Most cases settle in the weeks that follow, or before trial.
Lawsuit if needed. If the insurer will not pay what the case is worth, we may file in Bell County district court in Belton, or in federal court for an FTCA claim. Most cases still settle before trial.
You could get paid. We work to review TRICARE, health insurance and medical reimbursement claims and request any available reductions or waivers. You receive a settlement accounting showing the fees, expenses and payments. Your Killeen personal injury lawyer can review the evidence and answer your questions.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a personal injury lawyer cost in Killeen?
Nothing up front. The Huff Law Firm works on a contingency fee: the consultation is free, we advance the case costs, and our fee is a percentage of what we recover. If we do not win, you owe us no attorney fees.
I'm a soldier. Can I file a personal injury claim?
Typically, yes. Active-duty status should not limit your right to recover from a civilian driver, a business or a contractor who hurt you. There may be exceptions; for example, an injury caused by the military itself during service, which the Feres doctrine may bar.
What happens to my case if I deploy or PCS?
It can keep going. We handle everything by phone, email and video, work around your orders, and have settled cases for clients stationed overseas.
Will TRICARE take my settlement?
TRICARE may seek reimbursement for injury-related care. We work to review that claim and request any available reduction or waiver; the government decides whether to approve it.
Sources: www.tricare.mil, www.govinfo.gov
I was hurt on Fort Hood. Who do I sue?
It depends on who caused it. A civilian driver or a private contractor can be sued the normal way. If a government vehicle or federal employee caused it, the claim may go through the Federal Tort Claims Act, which has its own forms and deadlines. We may handle both.
Should I take the insurance company's first offer?
Almost never. First offers are usually made before the insurer knows the full extent of your injuries. Once you accept, you likely cannot reopen the claim even if you need surgery later.
What if I was partly at fault?
You may still recover in Texas as long as you were not more than 50% responsible. Your recovery is reduced by your percentage.
How long does a personal injury case take?
Timing depends on treatment, disputed fault, available evidence and whether a lawsuit is needed. A lawyer can discuss the factors affecting your case.
Does it matter that your firm is based in Houston?
No. We represent clients across Texas and handle Killeen cases in Bell County and Coryell County courts. We meet by phone, video or in person wherever you are.
Why does it matter that you are a Black-owned firm?
Whatever the background of the firm, clients should have a lawyer they trust in the room. Killeen is one of the most diverse cities in Texas, and we are proud to be a Black-owned firm that listens to its clients and fights as hard as they would fight for themselves.
