A closer look at your claim
The driver’s app status can matter.
Before a ride was accepted
Whether the driver was offline or logged in and available for a request can affect the coverage analysis. Preserve what you know about the trip and let the records fill in the gaps.
During an accepted ride
The time a ride was accepted, pickup information, and when the passenger left the vehicle can matter under Texas rideshare insurance law. A receipt or app record helps establish the timeline.
More than one driver
An Uber or Lyft vehicle may be one of several vehicles involved. Responsibility and insurance should be reviewed together. Do not assume the rideshare driver caused the crash simply because the app was on.
Houston roots. Texas reach.
Keep the trip details.
A rideshare claim starts with what happened on the road and what the trip records show:
- Trip receipt, route, date, and time
- Driver name, vehicle details, and app screenshots
- Whether you were a passenger, driver, or outside the rideshare vehicle
- Crash-report details, scene photos, and witness contacts
- Messages from the rideshare company and each insurer
- Treatment information, bills, and missed-income records

Details that deserve a closer look
Save the ride record, not just the driver’s name.
An app screen can change after a trip ends, is canceled, or receives a refund. Keep the receipt and any confirmation emails available to you, along with screenshots showing the trip details. Note when you captured them. The records can help distinguish what the app displayed from what happened on the road.
If several insurers contact you, keep separate notes for each conversation. Record the adjuster’s name, the company, the person or business insured, and the claim number. An update about vehicle repairs is different from a decision about an injury claim, even when both concern the same wreck.
Questions with Korey The Lawyer
Real questions.
Let’s talk about them.
Uber & Lyft Accidents. Start here, then tell me what happened.
Can I get help if I was an Uber or Lyft passenger?
Yes. Tell me which ride you were in and what happened. Save the receipt and any messages about the crash. We need to review who may have caused it and the insurance involved. You do not have to figure that out before calling.
What if an Uber or Lyft driver hit my car?
We can review that too. You do not have to be a rideshare passenger to have questions about a crash involving a rideshare vehicle. The driver’s activity, fault, injuries, and available coverage all matter.
Does it matter whether the driver had accepted a ride?
Yes. Texas law distinguishes being logged in and waiting from being engaged in a prearranged ride. Coverage can depend on the stage of the trip. Preserve the app information instead of guessing which policy applies.
Am I automatically entitled to a million dollars?
No. A policy limit is not a promised settlement or a guaranteed payment to one person. Liability, covered losses, exclusions, other claims, and the policy terms still matter. We need to review your actual situation.
What if I was the rideshare driver and someone else caused the crash?
Tell us which app you were using, your trip status, and what coverage you had. Your position may be different from a passenger’s. Save your policies, the trip records, and any written coverage decisions for the review.
Should I accept a quick offer from the insurance company?
Understand the offer and the release first. What does it cover? Are you still receiving care? Which claims could the release affect? Before you sign or settle, talk with Attorney Korey Huff.
Can you review an accident during a food or package delivery?
Yes, but a delivery trip should not be treated as a passenger rideshare trip without checking the facts and policies. Tell us the platform and what the driver was doing. Our delivery-truck page explains the starting questions.
How do I start a rideshare accident case review?
Call 1-877-HIT-MEUP!®️. The initial review is free. Have the trip receipt nearby if you have it. If not, call with what you know. We are based in Houston and serve injured Texans.
What if someone else booked the ride for me?
Tell us who booked it and who was actually in the vehicle. Ask the account holder to keep the trip receipt and relevant messages. Do not assume the account holder and passenger are interchangeable. Your location, role, and injuries still need to be documented separately.
The driver canceled the ride after the crash. What should I keep?
Save the cancellation notice, earlier messages, receipt if available, and the times you remember entering and leaving the vehicle. A cancellation shown later does not explain the entire sequence. Avoid guessing about coverage from a single screen; the timing and underlying records need review.
Does a fare refund mean my injury claim is resolved?
A refund and a settlement release are different documents. Keep the refund notice and review any agreement attached to it before accepting its terms. The important question is what you are agreeing to, not simply whether the company calls a payment a refund or a courtesy credit.
