Meet Korey The Lawyer

You were going somewhere. Now everything has changed.

A walk to work, a ride through the neighborhood or a trip across the street should not leave you sorting through hospital bills and insurance calls. After a collision, you may be trying to understand your injuries while someone else questions where you were standing or riding. Start with what you remember. You do not need a perfect timeline before you call.

The Huff Law Firm reviews pedestrian and bicycle injury claims in Houston and across Texas. Tell me about the driver, the location, your treatment and the questions keeping you up. We can discuss the evidence needed to understand responsibility and the losses the collision caused.

A closer look at your claim

Look at the collision from every angle.

Crosswalks and intersections

Signals, turning vehicles, sight lines and the location of each person matter. A crosswalk collision deserves a closer look at what both the driver and pedestrian were doing, and what witnesses or video can establish.

Bike lanes and passing vehicles

Tell us whether a driver turned across your path, passed too closely or opened a door into your route. The lane layout, travel direction and available space can help explain a crash that left little time to react.

Hit-and-run and coverage questions

If the driver left, save any vehicle description and available witness details. Insurance options depend on the facts and the policies involved. Do not assume a missing driver means there is nothing worth reviewing.

The details can tell your story.

Get needed medical care first. When you can, keep the information already available to you. Do not put yourself at risk trying to recreate the collision or collect evidence in traffic.

  • The collision date, exact location, report number and investigating agency
  • Photos showing the crossing, lane markings, signals, lighting and vehicle damage
  • Witness contact information and the location of any visible cameras
  • The bicycle, helmet, clothing and original photos or recordings you already have
  • Medical records, work restrictions, missed-income records and insurance letters

Know what comes next

Your recovery is bigger than a damaged bicycle.

A claim may involve treatment costs, missed income and the ways an injury affects your ordinary life. Future care or reduced earning ability requires support. Share concrete examples: appointments you cannot drive to, shifts you have missed or activities your providers have restricted. Medical professionals should guide your treatment; the legal review addresses responsibility, evidence and possible compensation.

Houston traffic includes crowded intersections, neighborhood streets, parking lots and routes shared by drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. The exact setting matters more than a general assumption about who had the right of way. Bring the questions you have. We will start with a conversation about the incident and what needs closer attention.

Questions with Korey The Lawyer

Real questions.
Let’s talk about them.

Pedestrian & Bicycle Accidents. Start here, then tell me what happened.

Can I call if I was hit while walking outside a crosswalk?

Yes. Tell us where you were, the traffic conditions and what the driver did. Crossing location can affect responsibility, but it does not replace a review of all the facts. Avoid deciding the legal outcome based on one detail alone.

Do bicyclists have the same rights as drivers in Texas?

Generally, bicyclists have the rights and duties that apply to vehicle drivers, with bicycle-specific rules and exceptions. Traffic signals, lane position and travel direction may matter. The rules that apply to your route should be considered alongside the evidence.

What if the driver says I caused the collision?

An accusation is something to investigate. In claims governed by Texas proportionate responsibility rules, being more than 50% responsible bars recovery; responsibility of 50% or less reduces recoverable damages by that percentage. Photos, witnesses and other evidence can help address disputed accounts.

What should I do if the driver leaves the scene?

Prioritize safety, call for emergency help when needed and report the collision to police. Keep any vehicle description, partial plate or witness information you already have. Do not chase the driver. Let us know what the investigating agency has provided.

Should I keep my damaged bike and helmet?

Yes, if you can safely preserve them. Their condition may help document the impact. Keep original photos and purchase or repair information as well. Ask about evidence preservation before repairing, discarding or transferring items connected to the collision.

Can I ask about a claim while I am still receiving treatment?

Yes. Tell us what has been diagnosed and what remains uncertain. Follow your treating providers’ recommendations. You do not need to finish treatment before discussing evidence or deadlines, and you should not guess about future medical needs.

What compensation might be available?

Depending on the facts, a claim may include supported medical expenses, lost income and other legally recoverable injury-related losses. Liability, proof, available coverage and applicable law all matter. A website cannot tell you what your particular case is worth.

How long do I have to file a lawsuit?

Texas personal injury lawsuits generally have a two-year limitations period measured from when the claim accrues. Exceptions and earlier notice requirements can apply. Claims involving children or government entities need particular attention. Have the actual deadline reviewed promptly.

Can a family member contact you for an injured person?

Yes. Start with basic contact information and a brief account of what happened. Authority to obtain records, make decisions or act for someone else is a separate issue. We can discuss what information is needed for the next step.
